More Relentless Automatons

I had another dream about robots taking over the world.

This time they were cleaning machines, sort of like advanced roombas. Their only imperative was to clean floors and walls. There were two basic models, one for horizontal surfaces and one for vertical.

They had no interest in human beings. Actually they had no interest in anything; they were simply programmed to perform one task and allowed to self-modify to improve their performance. So they got bigger and faster until they were dangerous and then unstoppable. People were getting killed like animals on the highway. They were just hell-bent on cleaning every surface and we were in the way.

After I woke up, I continued to think about this scenario. I imagined that they began to modify the environment so that every surface would be a cleanable plane. They could destroy the entire natural world and make the earth a clean, empty, lifeless maze with robots whizzing about, keeping it spotless forever and ever. One day aliens might discover it and wonder who had built it and what possible purpose it could have.

"The trilobites were among the most successful of all early animals, roaming the oceans for over 270 million years. (....) Trilobites finally disappeared in the mass extinction at the end of the Permian about 250 million years ago. "

Before the roomba, there was the Electrolux Trilobite.

"Electrolux has discontinued the Trilobite, removing any product information from its website, referencing instead its Wikipedia page for information."

So now ALL the trilobites are extinct.

Here's the latest song from Vampire Chat. It has nothing to do with trilobites.
